What is a VLCD diet and is it new?

A Very Low-Calorie Diet (VLCD), is a diet containing approximately 800 calories per day. The VLCD approach to weight loss has been around for many years, some sources citing its origin to over fifty years ago.  The JumpStart two-week program is unique as the products were designed specifically to meet nutrition requirements through adequate vitamins, minerals, and protein. 

Is a VLCD diet safe?

Yes, A VLCD diet is safe! It is suggested that before beginning any new diet you seek advice from your medical professional. A VLCD diet is not meant to be a long-term eating pattern. 

Can I add any additional food during the two-week Jump Start? 

What's great about the Jump Start two-week program is that it is customizable in essence. For the best results, it is recommended that the program be followed completely for two weeks before the addition of other foods, but we understand that this may not be feasible for everyone. Through this program, you have the ability to work with a Registered Dietitian to customize the program if necessary so that it is sustainable based on your needs and goals.  

Why two weeks to Jump Start?

We recommend two weeks on our VLCD Jump Start to promote rapid weight loss and begin the process of habit change. These meals are quick, easy, and convenient and take the guesswork out of the first two weeks so that you can focus on your individual goals. The first two weeks are where we tend to see the most rapid weight loss, and from there we are confident that you will feel energized and ready to begin the next step in your healthy eating journey.  

What do I do after the two-week JumpStart plan is completed to continue to lose weight and stay healthy? 

After the two weeks on the JumpStart plan, you will likely be referred to a program and Registered Dietitian that specializes in wellness and healthy eating for weight loss. From here, you will continue to build strategies to maximize and sustain your weight loss. There is always the option to be referred back to our Registered Dietitian if further consultation is needed, and we will work closely with your new program to ensure all of your goals are being met.
