On Becoming A Warrior Contemplation Lesson: Excellence

“Excellence is an art won by training and habituation.
We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence,
But we rather have those because we have acted rightly.
We are what we repeatedly do.
Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.”
Aristotle

This quote taken from Brendan Burchard’s book “High performing Habits” is often attributed to Aristotle.  It sets the foundation for a discussion on what excellence is, and what it means to you.

Defined: the quality of being outstanding or extremely good

I want you to find a quiet place preferably in nature, early morning, and meditate on what excellence means to you.

  • Personally - self-development, health

  • Professionally – relationships, skills

  • Academically – new knowledge

  • Interpersonally – family, friendships

Give one or multiple examples in each area, your choice.

More importantly identify any beliefs in each of these areas that are blocking you from achieving excellence.
